What size battery does my off-road vehicle need?

The right car battery or off-road battery depends on your group size, charging voltage, and engine demands. Fullriver's Full Throttle Series covers 15 automotive BCI group sizes for thousands of vehicles, with options ranging up to 225 amp hours and 1450 cold cranking amps. Are AGM batteries good for off-road use?

Yes. An AGM battery is the best battery type for serious off-road work. The absorbent glass mat design is sealed, spill-proof, and maintenance-free, with strong vibration resistance for rough terrain, and unlike a flooded lead-acid battery or older lead acid automotive battery, it mounts in any orientation. Compared to a standard lead-acid battery or basic rechargeable battery, our high-quality battery delivers more reliable starting power, stronger reserve for accessories, and longer service in extreme conditions.

How should I charge and maintain my off-road AGM battery?

Use a quality battery charger or AGM-rated unit instead of a basic trickle charger that may not fully restore an AGM battery. A smart isolator, smart charger, or dual battery kit can manage charging voltage between your engine alternator and a secondary battery in a dual battery system or aux battery setup. Inspect every battery for clean, tight connections, and disconnect during long storage to avoid parasitic drain from your fuse box or stereo amp.

Can I use a Fullriver AGM as a second battery or house battery for my off-road build?
